The Dark and Hollow Places (Forest of Hands and Teeth)

The Dark and Hollow Places (Forest of Hands and Teeth) - Carrie Ryan The story begins with a "chosen" group of people headed by the sisterhood, and as how an exciting story goes, a curious and emotionally attached girl named Mary wanted to know if there was something else beyond the fences of which she grew up in. She wanted to know if the stories her mother told her was true , and if there really is an ocean where she and Travis (the guy she loves who is the brother of her betrothed ) can have a life of love and freedom outside of the village. So I think i've spoiled a good bit of the story now soo..Whatever exciting things that happened next, will be revealed once you read the book but basically that is the beginning of thrilling adventure into the forest filled with the Unconsecrated or the Zombies who used to be like you and me before the Return. The story was great, as usual i'm not fond of the main female protagonist, cause I think she is selfish, immature and obviously she doesn't understand what contentment is and how she could be happy at some point without seeing the ocean and just be in the arms of the people she loves. She had to realize it the hard way when everyone she knew died. She saw the ocean, met someone similar to Travis and has apparently moved on. And like usual, two guys who are complete idiots well for some martyrs of love but i'd go with idiots- They don't know what they want, and when they do know they suddenly get clueless and just wait for something bad to happen or for Mary to lead them or talk some sense into them. But I liked how at some point they redeemed themselves by the end of the book. I liked how this was more than just a zombie book, it was a good dystopian read, it had a romantic feel, parts on friendship and family which was definitely a good mix that separates this from other dystopian novels who mostly bases the story on just two people and their undying love. I also loved how Mary chose her dream of seeing the ocean than just kneeling down and praying for things to happen, like some books that I don't like where their quest was to follow the path of God or whatever. I like it. 3.5 stars.(This book was sent to me for free along with the 2 other books in this trilogy. This fact has nothing to do with my opinions about the book/s. )
