Forward Slash by Louise Voss and Mark Edwards

Forward Slash - Louise Voss, Mark Edwards

Finally got into some reading after months and months of doing some random shit! i feel so good to be honest. Starting to feel like my olde self again. Anyway....

I got this book as an impulse buy at kinokuniya Singapore. I thought at first the premise at the back was sorta funny but it did feel like it had some interesting elements to it so i bought it.

The first few chapters was great, it had that blast of mystery to it, some very descriptive thoughts from the killer himself in one chapter and then the next would sound chill and have this usual everyday-this-is-what-happens-nothing-really-special-vibe, that created a good balance throughout the book. It was so hard to put down because literally in almost every chapter there is a cliff hanger from almost each characters perspective. If i had all my free time i would've finished this in two days with no sleep. Seriously it is that good. The way that the killer was constructed was brilliant it had a striking similarity to the infamous killer Ted Bundy only this one is more inclined to technology and all. I also liked the "true love" references such as the cannibal meiwes and that guy (brandy or what i think sorry i forgot) which also piqued my interest in researching about the cannibal cafe. (True story) . there was so many twist and turns throughout the book that i just didn't know what to expect and it made it hard to determine who the bad guy was. The ending though, that i feel is a bit short and liberating but sad. I won't give the ending away so for anyone who wpuld like to read this book you'd still have all the feelings and surprises I have had with this one. You'd feel angry, disgusted and sorry for the killer all at the same time. i mean, even the backstory of why he became like that was crazy. The mother gave him a shitload of traumatic experiences but he looked up to her nonetheless. It was ... It was... I'm gonna stop now before I give it all away.

This would make you think twice about online dating and just go out have orgies here and there just to feel free or to feel like you actually have a happy life. A lesson that must be reiterated through harsh mutilations and kidnappings. (Lol jk) but seriously guys be careful.

Just to summarize this is a story about psychopaths, family, hazards of online dating, false love and deceit.

Howl (Kane Wolves #1)

Howl - Annalise Grey, Olena Vizerskaya

At first i thought that it was an "ok" book like it was just another werewolf meets a human and falls head over heels kinda thing, defies all odds yadda yadda. As the story progresses, I thought "this is pretty predictable, jaime is the human lover, daniel is the unwanted third party.. Very twilight saga" .. I almost wanted to look at the ending in advance just to prove that my theory on this book was right but luckily I stopped myself.. I continued reading, finally got to the end and realized that there was so much more twist to the story. I did not like the ending where the main character had this alpha realizations and is starting to avoid the human and is thinking of the possibility of mating with her own kind for a change..I couldn't tell for sure how the whole thing will play out since it got cut out in the end, not really the satisfying ending I was hoping for but that made me excited for a second book.I did feel sorry for Daniel and that there was some part of me that wanted her to choose the wolf just because it seemed simple and less tragic for her but based on what the human had endured , I would want her to have a happy ending with him too.. But i don't know we'll see. This was also the first time that I did not hate the female main character in a book. They usually get on my nerves, they get too sissy at times. I appreciate the author's writing, it was an easy read yet the plot is a bit more complex than the others that I have read.

The Kure by Jaye Frances

The Kure - Jaye Frances

Paranormal-occult romance. ---WOW. That's one word to describe this book. It was so hard to put down, the story was very intriguing, unique but not as dark or demonic as I expected when I first read the synopsis. My imagination was running wild as the story progresses. The images of Sarah or any girl for that matter, trying to fulfill the directions of the Kure was just disturbing. How the author Jaye Frances described the condition of John Tyler's condition was gruesome and it's insane how devotion could overlook such a heinous thing. I did expect the leeching to happen and it doesn't work so they follow the kure anyway, but it didn't happen.. It was fine though because something better happened and it certainly was more creative than what I had imagined.

This was a short read but the story was not compromised it didn't feel unfinished but there is a sense of mystery at the end that makes you want to get out of the house and track down the next book. I have no complaint for this book. The writing was excellent, the setting, the plot was amazing, the characters were beautifully constructed. Seriously, I did not expect myself to have this kind of reaction for this book. The next book to this is the Karetakers, a continuation of Sarah and John's story. 5 ++ stars.

Sleep Stalkers by Jackie O' Dierno

Finally finished this book. At first, it was not a page turner for me because on the first chapter I kinda got a little confused on who is telling the story because the author was trying to introduce the 3 main characters Deliverance, Luke and Dave. As I worked my way out of the first few chapters I just admired how the plot was excellently constructed, and suddenly got into the book that I just didn't want to put it down. Obviously I had to get on with my own life so I finished this book by reading a few chapters a day. The ending was unexpected but it was romantic in a twisted way. The author did a great job in inserting humor and romance into this disturbing dystopian world. It was evident that a lot of research went in to the story especially when Dee was trying to help the minions understand the situation at hand and the solution that she came up with. This book deserves more attention and maybe a movie too xD

Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Weiss

Such a Pretty Girl - Laura Wiess

I liked it. Crazy mother. A pervert for a father. A scorned crippled boyfriend. Miracles. Shit if I were Meredith I'd save every penny and mooch all resources just to run away from all that. Short but good. Not satisfied with the ending, it was pretty weird and I still don't get the relation of the numbers and why she finds comfort whenever she calculates years or whatever in her head. The action taken by her grandmother around 75% in the book was very promising and it was disappointing that is was not something that aided her freedom in the end.3.5 stars

I think reading is cool. With or without Kindle.

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet - Jamie Ford The darkened corner is probably one of the shortest reads i've ever had but fortunately he did not sacrifice the quality of the story unlike some authors who lowers the quality of their work, the story is shorter and the whole thing just suffers. So basically our protagonist has issues about himself, a pretty low self-esteem, he is not strikingly manly and beautiful, pretty average but is not really a hopeless case. It is a long journey of obsessing over Katie Rose who is basically your standard goddess/leading lady/most wanted female lead. She's the type of girl who always has her feet on the ground, is never overwhelmed by the attention she's getting and shows how she really feels on things, like when she found out that he wrote poems about her, she approached him and basically made the first move but it didn't really push through and ended as expected. Seriously lacking balls there. The protagonist is filled with his own sadness, the shoulda woulda coulda on a higher and more depressing state. A different view on life. No hearts and flowers and did not really aim to please and uplift spirits, a wonderful change.Excellently written.

Camp Fear Ghouls Rl Stines Ghosts of Fear Street

Camp Fear Ghouls - R.L. Stine, Jahnna N. Malcolm This book got me into reading when i was in the third grade. Over borrowed and reread this like there was no other books in sight.

Fabled Enigma: Stealth series part one

Fabled Enigma - G L Briggs Okay. Sorry for the uber late review.this was actually written a week ago but it was hidden under a pile of god knows what.I have received this book in exchange for an honest review.Anyway this was a really good book. I loved how there are a lot of points, different edges to the story, the makes it interesting to read on. It isn't just one single plot, every character seems to have a background story that connects at one point to the next so it was not confusing, no part was astray or anything.I was not scared or grossed out, it was a tale of an unbeliever who was forced to do things or to somehow change his views on things. I could easily relate to it , the setting was brilliant and i just love Elena :)The one thing that i was a bit of a con for me is that its not that gripping. It is a good book but it's not the kind that sticks to me so i think i have re-read this and add on the details that i wanted to include but couldn't remember. Spoilers to follow ;)In conclusion... Just read it. It will be a great halloween read :) it's relatively short so it's not a burden if you have say 5 books lined up already :)

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

I honestly don't know how i should rate this book. Let me start by saying that it is a great book, nothing too chiclit sounding, no "fifty shades" awkward or "twilight " love triangles involved. It was more of a book about a girl who was traumatized, have no memory of the events that had occured..tried to go back to her normal life..finding out that what was happening to her was far from normal then realizing that she was responsible for the recent deaths of the people around her.. she loses her mind, said farewell to Noah and her family and tried to turn herself in only to discover that she may not have been responsible for everything and that her problem was that her ex boyfriend -who was supposed to be dead if she was really some psycho, was still alive.

So yeah some spoiler there. I don't fully believe that she didn't do anything, because some of the deaths couldn't have been done by Jude or some other person and the ouija board part about the cause of her friend's death.. So i kinda think that it could've been both. She thinks about harm on someone she dislike and then they get hurt out of that thought..magically.. Or it could've been Jude. He might have followed her around, heard some things, or had a strange connection with her too like Noah and then executed the thought as a personally revenge so Mara would go bonkers.

Obviously this story can take on a lot of different paths. I feel Iike the author has a very complex mind and I liked that which is why i'm so excited for book two. I'm just not sure if it's already out. I got excited, i got confused, i laughed and i panicked while reading this book. I liked the idea that Noah is a healer and that little fact kind of balances her and their romance episodes in the book. Beautifully written, unique and truly worth reading. This would make a great movie.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

Crazy. They deserve each other. Never have I read a book about a couple choosing a tragic path just because they don't know what they'd be without each other. At first I really hated the husband, being the uncaring ass he is, but everyone is right -the second half of the book is mindblowing. Not sure if Nick can be blamed for all this, cause the wife's really nuts even before they met. I guess it just went from bad to worse cause of the toxic relationship for 5 years. This reminds me of Sweeney Todd: demon barber of fleet street. The sad story of Benjamin Barker how he just wanted to have a happy family and he was wronged and thrown in prison for years, then he found an equally insane woman who in the end makes human pies yadda yadda . They also deserve each other sadly they both died in the end which isn't a bad alternative ending for gone girl.... Like a vengeful person comes in and murders them both, so they can stop living in denial and the baby won't have to live with insane parents. Just saying.

Love Virtually by Daniel Glattauer

Love Virtually - Daniel Glattauer

Just one of those tragic love stories. The author did an excellent job in constructing a "love" story in a series of e-mails. Irritated by Emmi the female protagonist.-Happily but unhappily married..looking for an escape from the seemingly perfect family life, using her friend as a tool and using Leo to construct an alternative world where she's free to fall inlove and do whatever it is that she can't do and be in real life because of her said "commitment." I loved Leo's character. Someone who at first was also looking for an escape from constant reminders of a brokenheart but slowly turns into someone who is hopeful but is sure that in the end there really isn't anything to hope for. They were holding on to something intangible. They've invested into a dream. They both fall inlove in a way that they aren't supposed to and the end was just the ultimate cut-off, the sad but appropriate ending to the story. It was about letting go of a chance that wasn't really theirs to take in the first place. I'm thinking of what happens after her realization at the end - to her family especially her husband (will everything go up in flames after all?) and will she just stop hoping and having those feelings as abrupt as it had been for Leo or will she try to reconnect or find him, like those sappy sappy movie endings? I'll never know. A great and realistic story.5 stars.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children - Ransom Riggs

Mixed feelings on this one. It was not what I expected at all. From the cover to the eerie pictures, I really thought the story would be about a weird orphanage filled with equally weird children with fucked up stories, like what happened before they came to that home, their feelings and the events that happened now that they are all gathered in that one place. That was not the case at all. The book was about this boy who was intrigued by the stories that his grandfather had told him over the years, especially when he died, his last words were about "the island" and just finding the home and stay there until he's safe. everyone thought he went crazy because of the traumatic experience with the death of his grandfather.. And things happened... The dreams.... the daily reminders of what he'd seen and it just went on like that for awhile until he decided to finally try and do whatever it takes to know the truth about his grandfather's past. I won't be saying anything more because if I try to push it, I might just reach the ending because seriously, there's not much story in this. To me, the book reminded me of Alice in Wonderland meets Peter Pan and directed by Tim Burton. the elements of the book felt like something that kids should and should not be reading. It is not scary at all but does have an eerie quality to it and I think that Mr. Riggs' writing style was excellent, easy to read and detailed but I must admit that the book at some parts seemed a bit dragging and over done. I loved the pictures and how they helped create the world into the reader's imagination, very artistic and it was really a good idea to make a story about authentic peculiar pictures from various collectors. Obviously, I can't make up my mind about this one which is why I gave it 3 stars out of 5. I will be reading the next book (to be released next year 2014) , hopefully the story would stick in my mind because I don't think i'd be interested in re-reading this. I don't regret buying the physical copy though because I did enjoy the pictures and I loved the cover, so it was still worth it for me.

Virgin Post.

So this my first ever blog post here at booklikes. I'm not sure what to say yet or what books to review first, i think I will go over some of the books i've read last year (69) ,this year from the month of January-March (39) and some books that i've read way way back that I think deserves a spot in my blog.

I don't know if anyone is interested to know who I am but I'm going to briefly introduce myself anyway. My name is Adrianne and I'm from the Philippines. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and I love reading books and experimenting with make up. I am a loser when it comes to sports but I think I make up for it by being good at other things. I dream of owning my own library and maybe write a book as I go along. I'm running out of things to say..so just ask if you want to or follow me :)
